Governance Structure

Our local governing body provides strategic leadership and accountability in our school. Governors appoint the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. It is governors who hold senior leaders to account for the performance of the school and, working with the Headteacher, make the sometimes difficult decisions about balancing resources.

ODST has a Board of Trustees which oversees the work of the Trust including the effectiveness of Local Governing Bodies. Our Local Governing Body meets up to six times a year. All of the governors attend these meetings. In addition, and a number of the governors will also attend the Resources sub-Committee which meets circa five times a year.

The Resources Committee ensures that the school uses its resources to achieve best value, thereby supporting the learning of all our students. This Committee is also responsible for Health and Safety, Premises and Staffing.

We have a number of vacancies on the board of Governors, if you are interested in becoming a governor, please see the Headteacher or contact the school office to make an appointment to meet with the Chair of Governors. Our governors come from different backgrounds and jobs and bring their skills and experiences to the Governing Body.

Meet our Governors

🌟 Meet Governor Colin! 🌟

Because of the connection between Grove C of E Primary School and St John's church we are required to provide 3 foundation governors. When the opportunity came up for a new governor, I was excited to step forward for 2 reasons. I want all children to have the best start in life and to learn to love the joy of continually learning. Second, 30 years ago, my own children went to this school and so I feel a strong connection with the school family.

I love being involved with school life, meeting the children and staff and supporting the school to be the best it can be for the children. School is different things for different people, a safe space, a learning space, a space for adventure, a space for experimenting with all life has to offer. So, for me, the joy is being able to work with the head and the staff to create this environment that meets all the different needs and expectations of the children that come through the gate every morning.

🌟 Meet Governor Karen! 🌟

I wanted to become a Community Governor because I strongly believe in supporting children and young people and wanted to make a positive contribution to my local community. My professional background is in safeguarding, partnership working and community safety, and becoming a governor has given me the opportunity to use that experience to support the school, its staff, pupils and families.

I am now Vice Chair of Governors as well as the Safeguarding Governor, roles which I am very proud to hold. I am particularly passionate about ensuring that children feel safe, supported and listened to, and that they have every opportunity to thrive. I really value being part of the Grove school community and contributing to the continued development and success of the school.

🌟 Meet Governor Anna🌟

I became a governor because I wanted to support children and schools in a longer‑term way than the one‑day STEM activities I’d done before. Being part of a community that helps children feel confident, curious and supported is something I really value.

As a Project Manager, I’m used to navigating budgets, risks and complex decisions, and those skills are especially helpful as work begins on the new building. I’m proud to play a small part in shaping a safe, inspiring place for every child to learn and grow.
