As in previous year we are supporting the Link to Hope Shoebox appeal with St Johns Church. Each class will aim to collect enough items to complete a family shoebox. For suggestions of items to bring in see below. All items for the school boxes and any home made boxes need to be in school by the 5th November. If you would like to make your own box please see the school office for a leaflet.
What makes Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal 2025 different?
Your shoeboxes will go to the poorest people in Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania.
Unlike many other shoebox appeals, their boxes are for entire families or the elderly, so nobody's left out.
The charity is small, yet established enough to have personal relationships with the individuals in Eastern Europe who work hard delivering your boxes. For transparency, we also carry out spot-checks to confirm that the right people are receiving your boxes.
The charity believe that sending shoeboxes shows love & indicates to people in war-torn or poverty-stricken circumstances that they have not been forgotten. Boxes are given regardless of their background, colour, creed or religion.
What should I send?
The families who receive your Christmas shoeboxes often have to choose between buying food or fuel. Buying presents is a low priority, as their homes often lack running water, are cold, damp and dark because they have no electricity.
Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal List therefore mixes essential and 'luxury' items:

Last week, these curious posters appeared around school advertising the unusual situation of Mrs Jenkins' vanished scarf! Year 2 worked quickly to produce these detailed descriptions and, thankfully, the scarf soon was discovered. Well done Maple class for these super posters.
School photos will be taken today so don't forget to smarten up and, most importantly, bring your best smile today! CHEESE!
Oak class recently went for a walk around the school to learn what the rest of the school looked like. They then returned to the classroom and drew maps of the school. We were really impressed with the details they could remember!

Year Three are enjoying their AccessArt topic about using charcoal. On Monday they studied modern artist's use of charcoal and yesterday they linked their learning to history! They had a campfire playing on the board for a Stone Age atmosphere while they decorated their "cave walls" with charcoal and chalk, inspired by prehistoric art as seen in our literacy text Stone Age Boy.
Mrs Cresswell would like to say a big thankyou to Inclusive Books for Children, who have kindly sent our school 100 brand new books for us to update our class libraries! A few lucky children helped to open the boxes and take the books around to every class. It is important to us to stock our shared and class libraries with modern, relevant and diverse books that appeal to the children. We aim for our children to have books that serve as both windows to the wider world and mirrors of their experience and everyday life.
Oak class have enjoyed a super week learning about Superheroes. They focused on the story SuperTato; making their own character, trapping peas into jelly, catching them in the classroom and retelling the story with our story tuff tray. They learnt how to write labels for pictures and objects and these soon appeared all over the classroom as they practised their early writing skills! Of course, they had to have a Superhero dress up day too and learnt about what their own Superpowers are such as 'Super kindness' 'Super adventurous' and being 'Super polite'. For fine motor activities, to strengthen their finger muscles, they saved Superheroes who were trapped in rubber bands and used magnetic force powers to find and sort pipe cleaners. Well done Reception!
Grove School loved their visit from @rockkidzuk yesterday! The children and teachers enjoyed dancing and singing, with a message of being the change and spreading kindness. Can your child remember the "Kindness - Live it Loud" song?
Last week, Grove CE visited St John the Baptist, Grove for our Harvest Festival Worship. We had a fabulous story from Open The Book, class prayers and glorious Harvest songs (some of which were delightful throwbacks to some of our parents!) An unbelievable amount of donations were gratefully received by the church to be sent to the local food banks. Thank you so much for these and well done to all of our children for representing our school in the community. #love #respect #resilience #harvestfestival #harvest #harvestsamba #cauliflowersfluffy
