Read Write Inc. is a popular phonics scheme that teaches children the sounds in English, the letters that represent them, and how to form the letters when writing. Read Write Inc. Phonics includes reading books written using only the letters they have learnt at each level (and a small number of separately taught tricky words). Children are also exposed to a wide range of classic and modern stories and non-fiction in class, and can bring home their own choice of library book, but being able to read their own phonics book leads to them feeling successful and builds confidence in reading and writing. The children enjoy their daily phonics sessions and are regularly assessed so they will always be taught in a small group of children at the same level.

As our pupils become more fluent and confident in their phonics knowledge, we move on to using the Oxford Reading Tree levelled books, which provide high quality, exciting and engaging texts at just the right level to encourage and challenge.  All our children also bring home a free choice of book from the class or school library to share with parents and encourage reading for pleasure.
